WELCOME TO OUR ECO-SCHOOLS PAGE
Narrated in a hadith, Hadhrat Abu Sa’id al-Khudri r.a. reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The world is sweet and green, and verily Allah is going to install you as vicegerents in it in order to see how you act.” (Sahih Muslim)
Based on this hadith, one of the many lessons we can extract is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) showed much care and concern towards the environment and aimed at caring and protecting it wholeheartedly. Through this hadith, too, he reminds us how we are all vicegerents with a great duty to serve Allah s.w.t. With great powers and status comes great responsibility.
With this in mind, at Land of Learning Primary, we are pleased to be involved in Eco Schools.
Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging millions of children across over 60 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.
For over 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the simple Seven-Step framework in order to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award.
Eco-Schools develops pupils’ skills, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and creates financial savings for schools as well as a whole host of other benefits.
At the beginning of each academic year the pupils have the opportunity to be elected as their class Eco Friend. The elected pupil is then part of Land of Learnings Eco Team.
The Eco Team will look at the following areas: Biodiversity, Energy, Global Citizenship, Healthy Living, Litter, Marine, School Grounds, Transport, Waste and Water.
The Eco Team meets regularly and undertakes school-wide Environmental Reviews. They ensure that as a school we are doing everything we can to make the school eco-friendly. The Eco Team hold whole-school assemblies where they share information with the rest of the school about projects and initiatives undertaken by the school.
Also, environmental awareness is embedded throughout the whole school, from its development plan to the individual subject schemes of work. The whole school development plan reflects the ethos of the school in terms of its commitment to the environment. All staff plan appropriate lessons and activities with environmental theme as part of the focus.
