WELCOME TO OUR ECO-SCHOOLS PAGE
At Land of Learning Primary, we are proud to be Eco Ambassadors. A group of children from each class ensures that as a school we are doing everything we can to make the school Eco-friendly.
With hard work and dedication from both children and staff we have achieved our Green Flag Eco-School status.
We have taken part in many projects including:
- ‘Switch Off Fortnight
- Fairtrade Fortnight
- recycling our old shoes for Africa’s Gift
- Litter Picking
- Cleaner Air- Switch Off Engines for Cleaner Air
We continue to work closely with The Leicester City Councils Eco Team.
We have attended Roadshows at Moat Community College and worked closely with outside agencies on various Eco Projects. Recently the Eco Council with the support of every class formed an action plan for how we can improve our school environment. We decided that we need more plants in school so we did a fundraiser and raised enough money to have lots of plants around school.
We recycle as much as we can, however, we are all too aware that to reduce or re-use is better for the environment and we have many projects within school which aim to do just that, including: Recycling all packaging by reusing it for art projects and up-cycling items as part of other curriculum areas e.g. during Book week /STEM week we dressed up in outfits made from recycled materials.
Environmental awareness is embedded throughout the whole school, from its development plan to the individual subject schemes of work. The whole school development plan reflects the ethos of the school in terms of its commitment to the environment. All staff plan appropriate lessons and activities with environmental theme as part of the focus.
Each year group elects members for the Eco Team and we meet regularly to ensure that we are doing everything that we should be and to discuss future projects. The Eco Team have held whole-school assemblies and produced videos and power point presentations where they share information with the rest of the school.
We are also taking part in national campaigns, such as the Climate Change, Wow Walker both of which reinforce the message that we wish to send out to our parents and the students that we educate.
