Year 2 – Curriculum overview
Year 2 is very much a transitional year, that encourages the children to become independent and responsible. The National Curriculum is followed for the teaching of all subjects.
By the end of Year 2 children should be able to write independently, with joined and legible handwriting and can read fluently. Mathematics is taught through a combination of workbooks, individual recorded tasks, mental arithmetic and practical activities, preparing the children for the Year 3 curriculum.
Children in Year 2 attend weekly assembly, the theme of which often links in with the weekly R.E./P.S.H.E. lesson. The highlight of the year is the preparation and performance of the End of Year production, when the Year 2 children also play a vital role.
Over the course of the year children have the opportunity to go on several excursions. We visit local museums, which offer Active Learning Sessions and Zoo as part of our work in Science.
