Keeping our Core Values (FRIEND) at the heart of everything we do, at Land of Learning we take bullying very seriously. Land of Learning is a bully free zone!
Allah says about the Prophet (SAW), “And we have not sent you but as a mercy to the worlds.” (Al-Ambiyaa’ 21:107). The Prophet (SAW) had the best character, and He is our role model.
The Prophet (SAW) said: “He who amongst you sees something evil should change it with the help of his hand; and if he does not have enough strength to do it then he should do it with his tongue (by speaking out); and if he doesn’t have enough strength to do it then he should (dislike it) from his heart and that is the weakest level of faith (Muslim, 2007; Aḥmad, 2001).”
We tackle bullying as soon as we are aware of it. We use restorative practices, raise awareness of the impact of bullying, and recognise there are sometimes reasons behind the choice to bully. We raise awareness through our PSHE lessons, assemblies and Halaqa sessions. We focus on having empathy for others, and understanding the impact bullying can have on people. Learning to understand and manage conflict is an important part of growing up. Bullying is not simply a ‘falling out’.
Here is the definition of bullying that we use:
Bullying is the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can happen face-to-face or online. ‘Anti-Bullying Alliance’
Research shows that experiencing bullying can have a significant impact on a child’s life well into adulthood. To ensure we are able to prevent bullying, we all should act quickly when it takes place and avoid misidentifying bullying.
This year’s focus for Anti-Bullying week is “Make A Noise About Bullying”.
