Zainab spoke to the children about her love for books and how her journey as an author began, leaving the children feeling inspired and in awe. Day one started with a yummy scrummy word trail, where the children searched for tasty letter clues around the school, then put them together to form book titles. For day 2, VIP invitations were given out for the children to attend the ‘Land of the Learning restaurant’ to feast on the ‘book buffet’, where children got the opportunity to ‘sample’ snippets of a selection of books. Day 4 of book week was welcomed with the utmost excitement for the most awaited day of the year…hot chocolate and pyjamas day!!!! Scrumptious cups of hot chocolate and marshmallows were enjoyed by all, while being warm and cosy in their pyjamas on this Land of Learning tradition. During the week, the children kept their ears out for the sound of the loud jingling of bells, which meant only one thing..freeze and read! Once the sound was heard of the bells, children stopped whatever they were doing to listen to stories being read by different teachers during the week. Amid all the fun and excitement of book week, the children were reminded as always of how privileged they were to have so much to eat and drink, and how many families around us sadly are not so fortunate. As a school, we came together to donate many packages of tins, cereals, biscuits and other essential food items for the local food bank. Book week concluded with the exciting reveal of the winners of the gingerbread man competition and the library revamp competition. Well done to our fantastic winners, and to everyone who took part, we were truly amazed by the entries!!
