The whole week was organised with stimulating activities to engage children in reading. The purpose was to challenge children to read beyond their reading range and explore different genres. We invited members of the community to read their favourite books to our children.
On Thursday children and staff dressed in pyjamas and spent the day reading a wide range of stories. After all the excellent reading children were rewarded with hot chocolate. The week ended with children dressing up in outfits made from recycled material and prizes were given for the most imaginative creations.
Children also enjoyed taking part in a sponsored ‘Word in a Word Challenge’ with all proceeds donated to an Educational charity. We raised a total of £880.
The main objectives of the Book week:
- Children to read beyond their ability
- To motivate a love for books and reading
- To inspire children’s imagination and creative writing
- to expose children to different authors
